Xirius Lawyers

Bernard Maingain is born on 30 April 1955. He is the father of four : Gaëlle, Marie, Donatienne and Brieuc.

He graduates at the University of Louvain with « high distinction » and is called to the Brussels Bar in September 1978. He takes part in various pleading contests and wins the price of the Bar of Marseille at the international competition of the Francophonie in Liege and the price of « la Volée » in Paris.

Apart from his career at the bar, he holds a mandate of assistant at the University of Louvain as well as a chair of teacher in European social law at FUCAM. He ends his university activities during the nineties in order to dedicate himself entirely to his profession of lawyer.

His whole professional insight is inspired by his concern to place the human being at the heart of the worry and the trading operation, and to preserve the anchor of law in justice.

In this context, at the beginning of his activities, he favoured social law which he still practices within his association. He has also been taking part for over more than thirty years in the publication of a chronicle of case law dedicated to the termination of the employment contract. He is the author of a number of works concerning the conciliation between private, family and professional life as well as the analysis of the consequences of the employment crisis on labour relations.

His professional practice led him to accompany business, political and syndicate leaders in various strategy operations: take-overs and reforms, restructurings, negotiations of collective labour agreements, conflicts with criminal implication, international development.

His advice was sought at several occasions concerning files of political nature.

He has international experience having carried out assignments in New York, Moscow, Paris, Berlin, Kiev, London, Dubai, Tel Aviv, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Bujumbura, Kigali, …. In Africa, he supported the development of a network of lawyers that supports the economic activity and the promotion of human rights and the state of law, whilst taking into account the reality on the field.

He spends his free time with writing and published several poem collections: Griffouillis, Féminine, Littérature de Cordel, L’Indicible, …

He practices in French, Dutch and English.
